Water kills bridges. It carries corrosive chemicals that seep through the pavement can erode the concrete structure and corrode interior metal supports. By waterproofing the bridge deck, you can prevent water, chemicals, and debris from reaching the bridge structure, thus extending the life of the bridge and saving money by avoiding costly repairs.

GeoTac geo-composites are peel-and stick waterproofing membranes designed specifically as a moisture barrier. They prevent water permeation or penetration through pavement surfaces and subsequent damage that moisture causes. GeoTac products are high-caliber with fully modified SBS asphalt mastic applied to non-woven polyester geotextiles.

GeoTac is an effective waterproofing membrane that is a minimum thickness of 0.065 inch (1.65mm) and is composed of a layer of self-adhesive polymer modified asphalt waterproofing adhesive (with a release liner) bonded to a non-woven polypropylene reinforcing fabric.

GeoTac HS is a higher strength version of GeoTac with increased puncture, tear and temperature resistance (overlay temperature can range up to 350°F (177°C), that is used when increased toughness and durability in the waterproofing installation is desired.

PavePrep geo-composites are high-density mastics laminated with tough woven polyester designed to withstand the loads encountered by highway traffic and stress concentrations at pavement joints and cracks. The dense and flexible PavePrep mastic reduces crack reflection through the overlay.

PavePrep SA is a heavy duty high strength waterproofing membrane that is 0.135 inch (3.4mm) minimum thickness and is composed of a flexible, high density asphalt mastic bitumen between a top layer of heat resistant, high strength woven polyester reinforcing fabric and a bottom layer of non-woven heat resistant polyester fabric with a polymer modified asphalt self-adhesive layer and removable release liner. The high strength fabrics provide increased reinforcement and cracking resistance.

PavePrep TSA is composed of the same fabrics and asphalt layers as PavePrep SA, but is thinner with thickness of 0.080 to 0.115 inch (2.0-2.9mm).

Ultraseal-Header

Ultraseal-Layers

The Ultraseal Waterproofing System is a built up multi-layer system used to protect the pavement surface from chlorides, water penetration and other harmful materials. The system is made up of four parts - Ultraseal Primer, Ultraseal Reinforcing Fabric, Ultraseal Bridge Deck Membrane, and Ultraseal Protection Board. The proper installation and layering of these products creates a waterproof barrier that not protects bridges from water damage.

Brochure

Ultraseal-Primer

  Ultraseal Primer

Ultraseal Primer is a thin, penetrating primer consisting of selected asphalt, solvents, and other modifiers blended to meet the requirements of CGSB 37-GP-9Ma. It is used to seal absorbent surfaces and to improve the bonding characteristics of most asphaltic coatings and finishes. This primer is formulated to be used on asphalt, concrete and masonry surfaces.

Product Data Sheet

Ultraseal-Fabric

  Ultraseal Reinforcing Fabric

Ultraseal Reinforcing Fabric is a spun bonded polyester fabric designed to be used as a standard reinforcing material for the Ultraseal 3750 MTO waterproofing membrane. It is used over cracks, construction joints and changes-in-place. It is also used between layers of membrane and over the entire area as a reinforced assembly.

Product Data Sheet

Ultraseal-Membrane

  Ultraseal Bridge Deck Membrane

Ultraseal 3750 MTO Bridge Deck Membrane is a hot applied waterproofing compound specially formulated to protect and waterproof bridge decks and parking decks. It is composed of synthetic rubber polymers and inert mineral stabilizers. It may contain reclaimed tire rubber and specifically selected compatible asphalt cement and resins. These materials are homogeneously blended to produce a compound that has excellent low-temperature flexibility, elongation, resilience, and adhesion, which will accommodate the movements of thermal cycling and create a waterproof membrane.

Product Data Sheet

Ultraseal-Board

  Ultraseal Protection Board

Ultraseal Protection Board is a semi-flexible core board, composed of mineral fortified asphaltic core between two outside layers consisting of an asphalt impregnated fiberglass mat. Specifically designed to protect the membrane from penetration by sharp aggregate, the board preserves the integrity of the water tight membrane.

Bridge-Joints-Subheader

Bridge Joints are gaps purposely left between segments of a bridge to allow for thermal movement. Since bridge temperatures change more rapidly than road temperatures, the two pavement surfaces expand and contract at different rates. Without bridge joints, the two different pavements would begin to destroy each other, the actual bridge structure could become damaged, too. To prevent water and debris from entering these joints, they need to be sealed with an air-tight, waterproof, and flexible material.

Crafco-Matrix-501-502-header

Crafco-Matrix-501-image

The Crafco Matrix 501 Asphaltic Plug Bridge Joint System is a pre-measured, pre-blended, hot-applied bridge expansion joint system composed of a uniquely formulated polymer modified asphalt binder and select aggregate. Simply level the material and allow to cool. No compaction is required. Matrix 501 can be used for expansion, fixed end, and pressure relief joints, in both new construction or rehabilitation projects. Matrix 501 can be installed on skews up to 30 degrees (up to 45 degrees for low traffic pavements). Crafco Matrix 501 is low cost, quick, and easy to install and maintain. Crafco Matrix 501 joints meets the requirements of ASTM D6297, Standard Specification for Asphaltic Plug Joints for Bridges.

An unblended version, named Matrix 502 is is primarily composed of Matrix 502 Binder and two grades of Matrix 502 aggregate. Additional components include primer, backer rod, bridging plates and locating pins. Both Matrix 501 and Matrix 502 are available globally, but Matrix 502 is only sold in North America through D.S Brown Company

Whether from thermal movement, traffic, water penetration, or some other force, pavement will eventually crack and deteriorate. Crack sealing is the most cost-effective method of pavement preservation. Installation is easy and bridges are open to traffic much faster than if the surface was ground and repaved. Below are links to the many proven Crafco pavement preservation products that have earned the respect and admiration of state agencies and contractors who practice pavement preservation methods.
